Thursday marked the first app release from Victorious, a company that is looking to take apps in a whole new direction. Victorious is planning on going in a different direction by concentrating on the specific yet lucrative “superfan” market. What that means is that the apps Victorious is producing consist of material based around one popular pop culture item or person (in this case, they are focusing on YouTube channels with a high number of fans). This is a highly different marketing scheme than usual, as app developers often look to create apps that are more universal and less specific, in order to enhance an app’s popularity to the general public.
Victorious is starting with apps built for internet video stars Ryan Higa and the Young Turks. These apps are created to appeal to the fan base that has been built up by these internet sensations (for example, Higa had 14.2 million YouTube subscribers before the app was released). Of course, the app will not appeal to anyone who is not a fan, but this type of niche marketing has worked, with varied results, in the past. Victorious has apps scheduled for release in the coming weeks for other popular YouTube channels such as Freddie Wong, DeStorm Power, and Felicia Day’s Geek and Sundry channel.
We at Liberty Fox Technologies look forward to seeing how these new apps are implemented, and to helping our clients build apps to their own niche markets. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us!
